Yunus Berndt

Fellow, The People Lab | PhD Candidate, University of Wollongong

Yunus Berndt is a Fellow with The People Lab, where he uses Large Language Models to scale and automate research processes. His interests lie at the intersection of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Public Policy, with a particular focus on how methods and computational tools can improve academic research, evidence adoption, and policy making. Yunus is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics at the University of Wollongong, where he develops refinements to Least-Squares Monte Carlo methods. He holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a BA in International Relations and Management from the University of Applied Sciences in Regensburg, Germany. Previously, Yunus has worked with the International Organization for Migration, Germany’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and several research institutes and social impact startups across Europe. His experience spans data analyses, simulation-based modeling, machine learning, and policy-oriented research in Migration, Education and Finance.
